Michelle Kirschner։ Making Survivorship Care the Standard, Not the Exception

Michelle Kirschner, Managing Director of the International Cancer Rehabilitation Foundation, Clinical Lead and Medical Advisory Board Chairman at OneVillage, shared on LinkedIn:

Stacy Wentworth, MD Thank you for highlighting this important issue and for referencing my work in your Substack article.

I completely agree that meaningful change will require empowering survivors to advocate for their needs during treatment and throughout survivorship. The more patients share stories like the one you described, the stronger the momentum becomes for healthcare systems to evolve.

One lesson I’ve learned through my national work is that survivorship clinics and navigators, while valuable, are not enough on their own.

Survivors need access to a broader interdisciplinary team early in their treatment, including cancer rehabilitation professionals, dietitians, exercise specialists, mental health providers, lifestyle medicine practitioners, coaches, and pain specialists, etc. who can partner with them to optimize function, health, and quality of life.

Thank you for continuing to shine a light on this gap and helping fuel the movement toward making survivorship care the standard, not the exception.”
