Michael Sapienza, Chief Executive Officer of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, shared a post on LinkedIn:

New York Magazine writer Laurie Abraham shares a powerful and deeply honest account of her journey with colorectal cancer in her latest article. Her story underscores a reality we must confront: This disease is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the US, yet it remains underfunded, stigmatized, and far too often left in the shadows.

At the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, we see every day how stigma and silence cost lives. When people hesitate to talk about symptoms or avoid screening because of embarrassment, lives are at risk. When funding lags behind other cancers, research and treatment innovation are slowed. These barriers are real and we all must play a role in dismantling them.

Laurie’s story is a reminder that we must continue to break taboos and amplify patient voices.
