Michael Galgano, Spinal Oncology and Deformity Neurosurgeon at UNC Neurosurgery, shared a post on X:
“We often consider Melanoma in the spine as a metastatic disease. In this unique case, we encountered a patient suffering from progressive thoracic myelopathy secondary to a Primary Meningeal Melanoma.
This multi-level tumor occupied both the intramedullary and extramedulary compartments of the spinal cord, making it a very technically-demanding operation.
Check out our recent video publication of this case, highlighting the microsurgical techniques necessary to achieve a safe tumor resection.”
