Mercy Sopuruchi Agu: A Beautiful Experience on Advocacy at the 15th AORTIC Conference

Mercy Sopuruchi Agu, Patient Navigator and Fundraising Lead at Project PINK BLUE, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“A Beautiful Experience on Advocacy.

Last week was a beautiful experience for me as an advocate. It was such a pleasure attending the 15th AORTIC Conference held in Tunisia, themed ‘Advancing Cancer Care Across Africa: Equity Through Empowering Research and Education.’

I am deeply honored to have been fully sponsored by VOICE: Voices of Impact for Cancer Equity, with the meticulous Carolyn Taylor, Founder of Global Focus on Cancer, as our coordinator and facilitator.

As a young breast cancer survivor and Patient Navigator at Project PINK BLUE, this experience was truly empowering and transformative.

The VOICE Workshop was a major highlight for me it was inspiring to see the remarkable work other advocates are doing across Africa, and to learn new ways to strengthen and implement my own advocacy.

The Patient Navigation session by the American Cancer Society is equally impactful, focusing on creating an enabling environment for patient navigation in LMICs (Low- and Middle-Income Countries), a vital step toward improving access to quality cancer care.

The conference also gave us a wonderful platform to meet, greet, and connect with global leaders, experts, doctors, researchers, organizations, and advocates, fostering meaningful collaborations and knowledge exchange.

Meeting other beautiful survivors was another unforgettable moment. Hearing their stories and witnessing their strength and determination to turn pain into purpose deeply moved me.

To my Executive Director, Runcie C.W. Chidebe, thank you, Sir, for always inspiring and encouraging me and other cancer survivors to grow and do more.

And to the VOICE sponsor, Carolyn Taylor, your story boosted my confidence in ways I can’t describe.
Thank you for your exceptional leadership, compassion, and for that gentle reminder: ‘No pressures, just take it one at a time.’

Together, let’s continue to amplify patient voices, advance cancer equity, and build a stronger future for cancer care in Africa.

The Work Begins Now.”

Runcie C.W. Chidebe, Executive Director at Project PINK BLUE, shared this post, adding:

“Every cancer survivor deserves a seat at the table and not just in conversations about cancer, but in shaping cancer control.

Survivorship is not the end of the story; it is the beginning of leadership. We need to ensure that the voices of those who have faced cancer are heard, valued, and included where decisions are made. Your resilience, perspective, and strength are assets we cannot afford to overlook.

Congratulations, Mercy Sopuruchi Agu.

I am incredibly proud of you.”
