Medicaid Cancer Foundation shared a post on LinkedIn:
“From 13–17 April 2026, Lagos hosted the 16th Biennial SIOP Africa Congress; and Medicaid Cancer Foundation was in the room.
The congress, co-hosted by the Dorcas Cancer Foundation and the Nigeria Society of Pediatric Oncology, convened the global and African paediatric oncology community under the theme: ‘Building collaborative networks for paediatric oncology across Africa.’
Key conversations from the congress touched on:
- Generating Africa-specific clinical data to guide treatment, moving away from protocols designed for different contexts
- The integration of artificial intelligence in early diagnosis, reducing diagnostic timelines from weeks to as little as 48 hours
- Nigeria’s formal entry into the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer
- Strengthening access to medicines, radiotherapy, surgery, and supportive care for children across the continent
These are not abstract policy discussions. They are the difference between a child who survives cancer and one who does not.
MCF stands with every institution, clinician, advocate, and family working to shift those odds. We congratulate all who made SIOP Africa 2026 possible, particularly Prof. Adeseye Akinsete, Dr. Adedayo Joseph, and the entire LOC and scientific committee.
The mission doesn’t end when the conference does.”
