“Personalized Medicine, Liquid Biopsy and the Future of Cancer Care: A Conversation with Massimo Cristofanilli.
Last month in Pompei, during the International Society of Liquid Biopsy (ISLB) meeting, we had the opportunity to contribute to important discussions on the future of liquid biopsy, precision oncology and personalized medicine.
Beyond participating in the scientific program and presenting the work of the IPM Alliance, we also had the pleasure of recording a series of conversations with leading experts shaping the future of cancer care.
One of these conversations was with Professor Massimo Cristofanilli, MD, FACP, Professor at Weill Cornell Medicine, pioneer in the field of liquid biopsy, accomplished medical oncologist, researcher, and one of the leading voices advancing molecular diagnostics and translational oncology worldwide. As Co-founder and Former President of ISLB and current President of the Precision Medicine Action for Cancer (PMAC) Consortium, Professor Cristofanilli has played a central role in transforming how we understand, diagnose and monitor cancer.
In this interview, we explore the promise of personalized medicine and the opportunities it offers for delivering more precise, patient-centered care. We also discuss some of the challenges that continue to slow its widespread adoption, including implementation barriers, healthcare system readiness, and the economic considerations surrounding innovative diagnostics and treatments.
These are not simple questions, nor are there simple answers. But they are exactly the conversations that healthcare leaders, policymakers, clinicians, researchers and patients need to have if we are to make personalized medicine a reality for all.
We are grateful to Professor Cristofanilli for sharing his insights and experience, and for helping advance the dialogue on how innovation can be translated into better outcomes for patients.”
