Marzia Zambon: The European Parliament Stands Up for Patients and Dedicated Health Funding

Marzia Zambon, President of Europa Donna Albania, shared Neil Grubert’s post on LinkedIn:

“Important milestone in EU cancer policy: the European Parliament stands up for patients and dedicated health funding:

Yesterday, the European Parliament adopted a landmark resolution on EU cancer policy, sending a clear political signal to the European Commission and EU Member States.

With strong cross-party support, MEPs called for:

  • Full implementation of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan
  • Dedicated health funding in the next EU long-term budget (2028–2034)
  • Sustainable investment in prevention, early detection, care, innovation, data systems, workforce development, and equitable access to treatment.

This resolution goes beyond rhetoric. It calls for concrete action at both national and EU levels, greater transparency in implementation and reporting, and, crucially, a shift in mindset: health must be recognised as a social investment, not reduced to a subset of competitiveness or research funding.
While the Multiannual Financial Framework (EUMFF) will ultimately be negotiated by Member States and the Commission, this vote is a powerful political push. It is a reminder that health must remain a core priority in the EU budget architecture.

To all EU patientadvocates… this matters!
Let’s use this momentum to amplify patient voices across Europe and advocate for funding that truly matches the scale of the cancer challenge.”
