Marwa Zaied: Three Years of Pink October, One Continuing Mission

Marwa Zaied, Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at the Birket Elsaba General Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:

“A Touch of Pink, A Purpose That Matters | Pink October 2026

Some traditions become more than annual events. They become a reflection of our values, our passion, and the impact we hope to make.

For the third consecutive year, I have continued my tradition of organizing a breast cancer awareness day during Pink October.

But this year was different.

October came with a busy schedule, work commitments, exams, and countless responsibilities. With less help and more challenges than usual, organizing the event was not easy.

For a moment, it would have been understandable to postpone it or let it go.

But I couldn’t.

Because this initiative has never been just another event on my calendar. It is a cause I deeply believe in — an opportunity to reach women, encourage meaningful conversations about breast health, and highlight the importance of early detection.

So, despite the challenges, I chose to make it happen.

‘Happiness in Your Hands’

One of my favorite details this year was the message on our gift box: Happiness in Your Hands.

The gifts were simple, but the message behind them was meaningful.

Happiness is in your hands when you take a step toward caring for your health.

It is in your hands when you share reliable information with your mother, sister, friend, or colleague.

And it is in your hands when you encourage another woman to seek medical advice rather than ignore a new or unusual change.

From the pink decorations and awareness poster to the presentation, interactive discussions, and little gifts, every detail was part of one bigger message:

Every woman deserves awareness, support, and the opportunity to make informed decisions about her health.

A little pink can carry a powerful message.

Looking back at these pictures, I am reminded that meaningful initiatives do not have to be perfect or easy. Sometimes, what matters most is showing up for the causes we believe in, even when circumstances are challenging.

My heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, participated, and helped make this day special. Your presence and engagement made every effort worthwhile.

Three years of Pink October, one continuing mission, and a hope to reach more women every year.

Because awareness should never be limited to one month. It should inspire conversations, encourage action, and remind us that small steps can make a meaningful difference.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Let’s turn awareness into action.”
