Martha Wanjiru: The Work Behind Community Cancer Outreach

Martha Wanjiru, Nurse Educator and ToT in Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment of Precancerous Lesions Screening, Cervical Advocate and Champion Kiambu County, Kenya, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Many people only see the screening numbers, but few see the preparation that goes into community breast and cervical cancer services. Long before the first client arrives, we identify and organize a suitable, safe, and private location. Through the mobile clinic van, we transport equipment and supplies, set up tents, arrange tables and chairs, and create a comfortable environment where women can receive services with dignity.

Preparation also includes putting up banners and educational materials to create awareness and guide clients to the screening area. We ensure privacy, proper client flow, infection prevention measures, and readiness of all screening equipment and supplies. Every detail matters because quality screening begins with a well-organized, welcoming, and dignified environment.

Behind every successful outreach is a committed team working tirelessly to prepare the space and ensure that women receive quality breast and cervical cancer screening services in their own communities.
