Martha Wanjiru, Nurse Educator and ToT in Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment of Precancerous Lesions Screening, Cervical Advocate and Champion Kiambu County, Kenya, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Reaching people where they are is where real impact begins.
Using strategic community spaces like boda boda shades for outreach has proven to be highly effective. These familiar environments create a comfortable entry point for engagement, especially for hard-to-reach men and women who may not visit health facilities.
By bringing services closer to the community, we are:
- Increasing awareness
- Breaking barriers to access and stigma
- Highlighting prostate cancer screening and actively engaging men in their own health
- Strengthening uptake of breast and cervical cancer screening among women
- Promoting a holistic, integrated approach—breast, cervical, and prostate cancer screening together
Integration is not just efficient—it is transformative. When communities feel seen and services are accessible, uptake improves, early detection increases, and lives are saved.”
