Martha Wanjiru: We Cannot Ignore the Community – This is Where Equity Begins

Martha Wanjiru, Nurse Educator and ToT in Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment of Precancerous Lesions Screening, Cervical Advocate and Champion Kiambu County, Kenya, shared a post on LinkedIn:

Universal Health Coverage (UHC) begins at the community level, in alignment with the World Health Organization call for people-centered, integrated care.
To achieve better outcomes in breast and cervical cancer, we must strengthen community linkages across the entire continuum of care from health promotion and early detection, to timely diagnosis and treatment, and palliative care and survivorship support.

This approach reflects the World Health Organization Global Breast Cancer Initiative, which emphasizes early detection, prompt diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment, and the Cervical Cancer Elimination Strategy, which prioritizes screening, treatment of precancerous lesions, and cancer management.

We cannot ignore the community – this is where equity begins.
I reaffirm my commitment to strengthening community-based interventions, ensuring no woman is left behind, and advancing UHC through integrated, accessible, and people-centered cancer care.”
