Marielle Santos McLeod, Director of Strategic Programs and Partnerships at Cancer Hope Network and Patient Research Advocate at the SWOG Cancer Research Network, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Honored to be joining this year’s Latino Cancer Patient Advocate Training as a mentor.
Programs like this are powerful because they don’t just teach advocacy skills-they center the patient voice in the clinical research space. When patients and caregivers help shape research questions, trial design, and outcomes, studies become more relevant, equitable, and accessible for the communities they’re meant to serve.
As Latino advocates, we have a unique opportunity to elevate lived experience, address barriers like language, trust, and access, and ensure that ‘innovation’ truly reaches our communities. The patient voice isn’t a ‘nice to have’ in clinical research; it is essential to building better science and better systems of care.
Deeply grateful to the sponsors and community partners for investing in this work and helping sustain such an incredible program. Together, we’re growing the next generation of Latino cancer advocates and transforming how research shows up for our communities.”
