Marielle Santos McLeod, Director of Strategic Programs & Partnerships at Cancer Hope Network and Patient Research Advocate at the SWOG Cancer Research Network, shared a post by Barbara Segarra-Vazquez, Professor at the University of Puerto Rico, on LinkedIn, adding:
“I am deeply grateful and honored to have participated in the inaugural Latino Cancer Patient Advocate Training – and even more so to have been invited to return to this incredible program as a mentor.
The education and training I received not only strengthened my existing advocacy skills, but also affirmed something profoundly meaningful: that my experience, perspective, and voice truly matter.
The opportunities, exposure, and growth this program has provided are difficult to put into words. It has been both empowering and humbling to learn alongside – and now support – advocates from such diverse backgrounds and disease experiences.
My sincere thanks to the sponsors whose support has made it possible to continue this vital education for so many deserving advocates. Above all, thank you, Barbara Segarra-Vazquez, for your powerful vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment. I am forever grateful for your mentorship and the path you continue to create for others”
Quoting Barbara Segarra-Vazquez‘s post:
“We are so grateful for the sponsors of the 2nd Latino Cancer Patient Advocate Training Program.
Special thanks to Pfizer through Katrina Marvin Johnson for supporting the program for the 2nd time, and both times as the main sponsor. New this year Bristol Myers Squibb with the 2nd largest donation, and MENARINI Group in the bronce category.
I also want to mention Exact Sciences that though Stephanie Reffey and Leah Eshraghi are our Oro sponsor for the second time, and for inviting many of the 1st cohort of advocates to participate in activities and educational sessions.
We are also grateful to GRASP for partnering again with us. The Latino Advocate Program has proven to be crucial to elevate the voice of patient advocates.
This year we have 15 new participants from 9 different types of cancer experiences and from 7 different States and Puerto Rico.
We are glad to have as mentors two graduates of the 1st cohort, Marielle Santos McLeod, and Andrea Suarez Vargas. Shout out to my partner and co-lead Sandi Stanford.”
