Marielle Santos McLeod, Director, Programs and Advocacy at Cancer Hope Network and Patient Research Advocate at SWOG Cancer Research Network, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“We had an incredible experience at the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Coalition Conference this week!
Our team proudly presented our poster on ‘The Positive Impact of One-To-One Peer Support on AYA Cancer Patients and Survivors’. Our research showed how one-to-one support drastically reduced distress and isolation amongst AYA patients and survivors.
It was wonderful reconnecting with advocate friends I hadn’t seen in some time, spending time with a fellow SWOG patient advocate, and meeting one of our new community partners face-to-face. I’m leaving this conference deeply inspired and filled with renewed determination to keep advocating for this often-overlooked community.
As a young-onset survivor, I know firsthand how vital programs like those offered by Cancer Hope Network are in creating spaces of belonging, hope, and encouragement.
THIS is advocacy personified. So proud to be a young onset survivor and for having the platform and opportunities to advocate and improve the patient experience and outcomes for the AYA community.”
