Maria João Cardoso: Celebrating Innovation in Breast Cancer Research Through BCRP Awards

Maria João Cardoso, Breast Cancer Research Program Director at BCRP Champalimaud Foundation and International Coordinator of Cinderella Project, shared on LinkedIn:

Champions of Change
Innovation is rarely the work of a single person. Behind every breakthrough, there are people who believe in an idea before the results exist. People willing to invest in talent, trust science, and create opportunities for others to succeed.

This week, at Medica AI, we had the privilege of celebrating our first Champions of Change together with the BCRP Awards 2026.

A heartfelt thank you to Simoldes and Delta Cafés for believing that supporting research is not simply philanthropy—it is an investment in the future of patients.

Congratulations to our three BCRP Award-winning teams:

VHT-BREAST – Digital Surgery Lab Tiago Marques, João Santinha
BRIDGE-VR – SCOPE Lab David Pinto, Scott Reenie
PRIME-BC – Physical Activity & Quality of Life Lab Fernanda Arthuso

These projects are different in their scientific approach, but they share one common ambition: to improve the lives of people living with breast cancer through innovation that can reach clinical practice.
What made this moment particularly meaningful was seeing researchers, clinicians, and supporters sharing the same stage. This is exactly what fusion research should look like: a collaborative ecosystem where every contribution matters.

To everyone who attended, presented, evaluated, supported and believed in this initiative-thank you. Because every breakthrough begins with someone who believes that change is possible.”
