Maria Hafez: A Powerful and Inspiring Start to WCG MAGI 2026 in Chicago

Maria Hafez, Assistant Professor at St. Luke’s University Health Network, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“A powerful and inspiring start to WCG MAGI 2026 in Chicago!

I am proud to be here representing St. Luke’s University Health Network and spending Day 1 immersed in thoughtful, practical, and forward-looking discussions on AI in clinical research, agentic AI, and people-centered leadership.

One of the most exciting themes today was the shift from “AI that answers” to “AI that does.” The conversations around AI agents were especially energizing, moving beyond simple outputs to systems that can help support structured, multi-step workflows, reduce administrative burden, and create more space for the work that truly requires human expertise, judgment, strategy, and leadership.

What resonated most with me is that successful implementation is about much more than the model itself. It is about building the right knowledge base, designing the right workflow, establishing clear governance, defining boundaries, and ensuring meaningful human oversight every step of the way.

In healthcare and clinical research, innovation must be paired with trust, accountability, compliance, and real-world usability. That balance is what will determine whether these tools truly help our teams and improve the way we work.

As a breast medical oncologist and Oncology Clinical Research and Trials leader, I am constantly thinking about how to bring ideas like these back in ways that strengthen research infrastructure, improve trial operations, better support our teams, and ultimately enhance patient care.

Grateful for an energizing first day, outstanding speakers, and meaningful conversations with colleagues across the field. I am excited for the days ahead and hopeful to return with valuable knowledge, practical insights, and fresh ideas that can help advance our work at St. Luke’s University Health Network.

I would also like to express my gratitude to Arturo LoAIza-Bonilla MD for recommending this conference and for his support, and encouragement. Thank you!”
