Christine M. Lovly: An Inspirational Leader and a True Visionary – Margaret Foti

Christine M. Lovly, Ingram Associate Professor of Cancer Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Member Board of Directors at the American Association for Cancer Research, shared a post on LinkedIn by AACR, adding:

“An amazing article highlighting an inspirational leader. Margaret Foti is a true visionary.

The story describes how CEO Dr. Foti grew the American Association for Cancer Research from a small organization to the global superpower it is today. But to know Dr. Foti in person is to see exemplary leadership in action.

She is deeply committed to the entire scope of the cancer community, most of all patients. She is passionate about advancing rigorous cancer science to benefit patients. She is relentless in her advocacy and her pursuit of ‘moving the needle’ to achieve better outcomes across the board for all types of cancer.

She engages partners at every level and from every expertise with sincerity and humility to grow the multi-disciplinary teams needed to answer the hardest questions. She cares deeply for her people (and as a testament, many team members at AACR have worked there for 10+ years). I have seen Dr Foti in action as a member of the AACR board of directors, and it is truly inspiring.

To think about how many people around the world have benefited (directly or indirectly) from AACR activities (be it grants, conferences, journal publications, committee memberships, or science that has supported change in clinical practice) is a testament to her impact and legacy!”

Quoting AACR’s post:

Read about the achievements of our CEO, Margaret Foti, PhD, MD (hc), who guides our programs and initiatives to advance cancer science and medicine for the benefit of cancer patients and their families around the world.”
