“My birthday is September 19-and this year, I’m asking for donations to Team Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center! The evening before, on September 18, I’ll join Team Roswell at Blood Cancer United Light The Night in Delaware Park.
As a physician-scientist working in CAR T-cell therapy, I’ve seen how much our research-and the field as a whole-has benefited from an ecosystem of support: government grants, foundations, industry partnerships, and philanthropy. Each plays an essential role. Philanthropy can be especially catalytic, helping promising ideas cross the gap from the laboratory to the clinic.
At Roswell Park, I have seen that impact firsthand. Philanthropic support through the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation and The 11 Day Power Play (thank you Amy Gold) helped make possible our first-in-human CD83 CAR T-cell clinical trial for relapsed or refractory AML (NCT06871410).
I’m proud to walk alongside Matthew Cortese, our Team Roswell captain and Buffalo Light The Night Corporate Walk Chair-and thrilled to congratulate him on being unanimously selected for a seat on Blood Cancer United’s Buffalo Board of Trustees.
I’m also grateful to Kite Pharma for choosing Buffalo as one of its 2026 Light The Night sites and joining our community at this year’s event. It is meaningful to see industry colleagues showing up for this community.
