“Wrapping up two inspiring days at the SITC Women in Cancer Immunotherapy Network (WIN) Leadership Institute.
Across both days, the roundtables ended up teaching me as much as the plenary sessions – sometimes more. One that’s stayed with me was Rosanna Ricafort’s, ‘Establishing Your Place on the Humility to Hubris Continuum‘, where the format mattered as much as the content. It wasn’t a lecture on how to be more self-aware.
It was closer to a differential: each of us talking through where we actually sit, testing it against the room, and coming out with a more accurate read than we walked in with.
A few things that surfaced and stuck:
- Discomfort is more useful than resentment – the second is just what happens when you avoid the first.
- Boundaries don’t get built by someone else on your behalf.
- Confidence, in this context, meant simply knowing what you bring – not performing it louder.
- Culture is protected by what a team doesn’t tolerate, as much as by what it says it values.
Separately, a line from Tullia Bruno’s session, ‘The Art of Saying No‘, has stuck with me since:
‘If I say yes to this, what should I intentionally deprioritize?’
