“Twenty Years of Making Children Matter.
Twenty years ago, My Child Matters, an initiative of Foundation S, was launched with a simple but powerful belief: a child’s chance of surviving cancer should not depend on where they are born.
Today, that belief has translated into action for more than 280,000 children in low- and middle-income countries—through earlier diagnosis, stronger health systems, reduced treatment abandonment, better supportive and palliative care, training, registries, telemedicine, and psychosocial support. Always grounded in real-life needs. Always close to children and families.
This special issue of CancerWorld is dedicated entirely to that impact. It shares stories from Colombia, Paraguay, Bolivia, Tanzania, Ukraine, Sub-Saharan Africa, and beyond, alongside initiatives such as the My Child Matters Nursing Awards, Teleo, CheckUpAYA, and the Home Away from Home program developed with Childhood Cancer International.
We invite you to read this special issue, reflect on what sustained commitment can achieve, and be inspired by what happens when children truly matter.”
