Maite Gorostegui: The Magic of Pediatric Oncology
Maite Gorostegui, Pediatric Oncologist at Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona, shared a post on LinkedIn:
” ‘Bitter, sweet’ – was the definition sometime ago Jaume gave to our work in pediatric oncology, that day was terrible bitter because a child lost. He forgot to mention the magical moments, as the one we just had at the Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona, and thanks to him ;-).
We don’t have started yet our academic year, and our Grand Rounds are in ‘pause’. He spontaneously decided to use the three coming Thursdays to speak about whatever our fellows in training wanted, and the magic started at the same time he raised the question: Why we decide to be a pediatric oncologist? and then we were transported to the 90′ and then to the begin of this century. Walking with him these unforgettable seven years he had at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and then back to Barcelona all these last years…
Yes, bitter-sweet is always with us: hard moments, tears, smiles, ideas, laughes, dreams that came true and are growing, and the most important thing the love of support of the children’s families we have the privilege to dedicate our days.”
