Mabel Baxter Dalrymple: Officially Completed My PhD at King’s College London

Mabel Baxter Dalrymple, Private Tutor at Superprof, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I’m proud to share that I officially completed my PhD with Maddy Parsons at King’s College London, after successfully defending my thesis at the end of 2025!

My research focused on the roles of nuclear actin as a mechano-sensitive component of breast cancer cells, responding to changes in the stiffness of the extracellular matrix. The work was heavily rooted in imaging, implementing advanced microscopy techniques to visualise and quantify nuclear F-actin in 3D models, as well as in human breast tissue sections.

I’m incredibly thankful to Cancer Research UK (CRUK) for funding this opportunity, enabling collaboration across the Cancer Research UK City of London Centre network. I would like to sincerely thank my supervisor, Professor Maddy Parsons, for her constant support, expertise and for nurturing an inclusive and inspiring environment. I feel lucky to have been part of this group and will cherish the memories and connections I have made.

Thank you also to Professor John F Marshall, Barts Cancer Institute (Queen Mary University of London), for his guidance and expertise in breast tumour biology and the opportunity to work with the Breast Cancer Now BioBank. Thank you to my thesis committee Jez Carlton and Monica Agromayor for their insights and mentorship over the course of the PhD.

This thesis was dedicated to my dad, whom I lost to frontotemporal dementia (FTD) during my PhD. Completing this work while navigating grief and loss would not have been possible without the help and support from those around me.

Completing this chapter has given me valuable experience in research, critical analysis, and collaboration, and I look forward to applying these skills in future opportunities within cancer research.”
