“Cancer treatment is about much more than medicines, scans, and hospital visits.
It is about the fear families carry in silence, the uncertainty that follows a diagnosis, the burden of arranging finances, the need for clear guidance, and the reassurance that no one has to face cancer alone.
These realities were at the heart of the Ranchi Cancer Summit 2.0 – Patient Advocacy Workshop, convened by Mr. Sanjeev Sharma and organized by Dr. Satish Sharma, Medical Oncologist and passionate patient advocate.
The workshop brought together over 100 participants, including more than 80 cancer patients and caregivers, creating a platform for open dialogue on the challenges faced throughout the cancer journey.
A live poll revealed that only 5.6% of participants felt cancer awareness in Ranchi is adequate, while nearly 94% believed there is a pressing need to strengthen awareness. Beyond financial support, participants identified emotional support, family support, clear treatment information, guidance, and access to reliable knowledge as their greatest unmet needs.
One of the key outcomes of the workshop was the overwhelming support for establishing the Ranchi Cancer Patient Support Group – a collaborative platform that will bring together patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, NGOs, survivors, and patient advocates to ensure that no one has to navigate cancer alone.
This was more than a workshop – it marked the beginning of a patient-led movement to build a more compassionate, informed, and patient-centred cancer care ecosystem in Ranchi.
Because every person facing cancer deserves not only treatment, but also guidance, support, and hope.”
