Lung Cancer Europe: Germany Launches Lung Cancer Screening Programme

Lung Cancer Europe shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This week Germany started its lung cancer screening programme.

From 1 April 2026, eligible people aged 50 to 75 with a high-risk smoking history can access low-dose CT screening through Germany’s statutory health insurance.

This is a significant step for early detection and an important sign that lung cancer screening is moving forward in Europe.

How well the programme works in practice will depend on whether eligible people are identified and referred, how consistently the pathway works across the country, and whether primary care has the support needed to make it work well.

In Germany, recruitment relies on primary care rather than an organised invitation system, which makes awareness and implementation especially important.

Read more about what Germany’s launch means, how the programme works, and the questions that still matter as it begins.”
