Luisina B. Ripari, Full Professor of Biochemistry at University of Entrepreneurial and Social Sciences, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Now back home, I am deeply honored to now be part of the AACR Global Scholars community through the Global Scholars-in-Training Award (GSITA) program at AACR26.
The meeting brought together approximately 25,000 participants from around the world, creating meaningful opportunities to connect with researchers and peers during an intense and enriching experience.
I am especially grateful to the incredible group of GSITA fellows who shared this experience; your perspectives, support, and sense of community made my time at the congress much more meaningful and enjoyable.
One of the most valuable aspects of this experience was engaging with AACR leadership, including Dr. Keith Flaherty, Dr. Patricia LoRusso, and Dr. Margaret Foti, to discuss the major challenges faced by low- and middle-income countries in advancing cancer research and care. For our countries, having this global representation within the American Association for Cancer Research is especially meaningful.
At AACR26, I had the opportunity to present my work, ‘Galectin-1 as a central regulator of angiogenesis and metabolic reprogramming in glioblastoma,’ which constitutes a key part of my doctoral thesis.
I am especially grateful to my mentors, Dr. Diego O. Croci, Dr. Guillermo Videla Richardson, and Dr. Gabriel Rabinovich, for their guidance and support throughout this work.
Last but not least, a sincere thank you to Alfonso López-Coral, Ph.D., Pablo Sanchis, and Annie Wai Yeeng Chai for going above and beyond to ensure a seamless and memorable experience for all of us.
There is much more to reflect on from this experience, but I will let the photos capture some of what words cannot fully convey.
I look forward to continuing to contribute to globally inclusive and impactful cancer research.”
