“How are we doing with mental health in Sub-Saharan Africa?
The evidence is unequivocal: we are not doing well.
Our analysis of over three decades of Global Burden of Disease data shows a substantial rise in the burden of mental disorders, particularly anxiety and depression, with worrying acceleration in recent years.
Mental health can no longer remain a neglected priority. Strengthening financing, integrating services into primary healthcare, tackling stigma, and investing in prevention are urgent imperatives.
Better surveillance, longitudinal research, and stronger investment cases are urgently needed ”
