Lisa Stevens, Director at International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), shared on LinkedIn:
“Back home after an inspiring WCC2026 in Hong Kong – energized by the strong sense of community and shared commitment to advancing global oncology.
A central theme throughout the Congress was the importance of listening to people with lived experience (PWLE) and ensuring their perspectives inform national and local programmes. Financing (at national level and also in health benefit packages) were common discussions as well.
I was pleased to contribute to several important discussions:
- Joining a panel on radiotherapy innovations in financing and care.
- Highlighting IAEA support for Bankable Documents as countries explore establishing or expanding radiotherapy services through Rays of Hope.
- Moderating the Big Debate: ‘Will Precision Oncology Deliver a Healthier World?’ Dr Lillian Siu of PMCC and Dr Mark Lawler of Queen’s University Belfast brought humour, science and compelling arguments – and even shifted some opinions in the room.
I was also happy to meet the IAEA-sponsored abstract presenters. Their enthusiasm to share their work and to network with congress participants was inspiring.
I greatly appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with friends and colleagues. The openness to collaboration felt especially meaningful in today’s challenging budget landscape. I plan to follow-up on agreed actions that I hope lead to enhanced collaborations.
Thank you to UICC for convening another top-notch event.”
