Liran Belenzon, Founder and CEO of the BenchSci, shared on LinkedIn:
”I’m now more convinced than ever: Anthropic is quietly becoming a biopharma.
Not ‘an AI company that sells to pharma.’ A pharma.
Here’s what I learned this week:
- They’re buying the data. They’re approaching biotechs and data providers to acquire proprietary datasets.
- They organized like a drug company. If this was just “skin in the game” – testing their AI in the lab – you’d structure it as a research team. Instead they built their drug discovery arm around therapeutic areas.
- They think they can do pharma with 1/1000th of the people. They already did it in coding. Now they bought a ~10-person team and, I’d bet, are running the Formation Bio play: a tiny group of humans, an army of agents, and a drug pipeline that used to take thousands.
-
It’s their clearest path to real money. One approved giant blockbuster
drug can double their yearly revenue. No SaaS contract does that.
If I’m right, every incumbent in drug discovery should be asking what happens when your most advanced supplier decides to compete with you.”
