Layth Mula-Hussain: AMSTRO 2026 Builds Momentum for Advancing Medical Physics and Radiotherapy Access

Layth Mula-Hussain, Radiation Oncologist at BC Cancer, shared ASTF’s post on LinkedIn, adding:

“An important and timely message from ASTF as we approach the International Day of Medical Physics 2026.

Health equity in radiation oncology is not simply about access to technology, but also about ensuring that every patient has access to safe, high-quality treatment delivered by well-trained multidisciplinary teams.

Medical physicists play an essential role in achieving this goal through patient safety, quality assurance, innovation, and education.

The success of the AMSTRO 2026 conference in Dubai provides a strong foundation for advancing regional and international collaboration. Building on this momentum, AMSTRO-ASTF has an important opportunity to strengthen professional partnerships, capacity building, and equitable access to radiotherapy across the Arab world and beyond.

My sincere appreciation to ASTF, IOMP, and all medical physics colleagues for their dedication to improving cancer care worldwide.”

Arab Science and Technology Foundation – ASTF shared:

“The International Organization for Medical Physics (IOMP) has set the theme for this year’s International Day of Medical Physics, on 7 November 2026: ‘Advancing Global Health Equity: The Ethical Foundation of Medical Physics.’

If you work in medical physics or radiotherapy, you’ll recognise the question it raises: who can reach safe and effective care. It’s a question close to the work of AMSTRO-ASTF, the radiation therapy and oncology society of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF), launched on 21 March 2025.

At the AMSTRO 2026 international conference (6-8 February 2026, Zayed University, Dubai), 11 leading international oncology organisations took part, including IAEA, ESTRO, ASTRO, UICC, AAPM and MEFOMP, and more than 800 people registered. The conference adopted the AMSTRO Dubai Declaration.
