Layth Mula-Hussain: An Institutional Step Towards the Future of Radiation Therapy in the Arab World

Layth Mula-Hussain, Radiation Oncologist at BC Cancer, shared on LinkedIn: BY Arab Science and Technology Foundation – ASTF, adding:

“From a scientific vision in 2022 to an institutional step towards the future of radiation therapy in the Arab world.

In 2022, I had the honor of co-authoring a scientific chapter titled Radiation Therapy in the Arab World, published as part of Cancer in the Arab World by Springer.

In this chapter, we reviewed the reality of radiation therapy in the Arab countries, the disparity in the availability of specialized devices and cadres, and the challenges related to training, scientific research, and professional cooperation.

One of the highlights of the need to establish a strong regional scientific and professional association that brings together radiation therapy specialists from various Arab countries and contributes to the development of clinical practice, education and scientific research.

Today, I am pleased to see that vision come closer to implementation through the efforts made to develop the AMSTRO network, under the umbrella of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF).

Our ambition goes beyond the establishment of a professional association; we look forward to an inclusive Arab platform for radiotherapy doctors, medical physicists, radiotherapy technologists, specialized nurses, engineers, and other partners in cancer care.

We hope that this initiative will contribute to building bridges of cooperation between Arab institutions, promoting training and scientific research, exchanging experiences, and supporting equitable access to safe and effective radiotherapy services.

What we wrote yesterday as a scientific need, we hope to contribute today to transforming it into a sustainable institutional work that serves patients and specialists in our Arab world.”
