Laurence Buisseret, Director of the Medical Oncology Department at Institut Jules Bordet, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Supportive care matters !!
In a great ASCO 2026 summary session, Sandrine Aspeslagh reminded us that treatment acceptability is shaped by much more than a CTCAE grade.
Duration, predictability, reversibility, impact on daily functioning, cumulative burden, and patients’ own priorities all influence how toxicities are experienced.
Several studies presented at ASCO highlighted the growing impact of supportive care interventions, including physical activity, nutrition, vitamin D optimization, digital symptom monitoring, and personalized supportive care pathways.
Physical activity in particular continues to demonstrate impressive benefits on symptoms, quality of life, and also clinical outcomes.
As oncology outcomes continue to improve, supportive care should no longer be seen as an adjunct, but as an integral part of cancer treatment. Listening to our patients and measuring what truly matters to them remains at the heart of high-quality cancer care.”
