Lameck Oyoo, Director of Afya For Africa, is addressing critical gaps in post-mastectomy care by providing essential support items that enhance the quality of life for breast cancer survivors. Explore how this initiative is advancing comprehensive cancer care and patient empowerment:
“Post mastectomy items remain a major challenge for many women living with breast cancer, affecting their comfort, confidence, and quality of life. Since 2019, Afya for Africa, in partnership with Dianne’s Mastectomy, has been working to bridge this gap by distributing essential items such as soft breast forms, Wigs, post-mastectomy bras, compression sleeves, and swimming costumes to survivors. These items not only restore dignity but also promote physical and emotional well being.
Beyond this initiative, Afya for Africa plays a vital role in cancer management across communities by creating awareness, offering patient navigation services, supporting treatment access, and running survivorship programs. We empower patients and caregivers through psychosocial support, education, and advocacy, while also working to reduce stigma around cancer. Our holistic approach ensures that women affected by breast cancer receive not only medical support but also the care, tools, and encouragement they need to rebuild their lives with strength and hope.”
