Lacy Hubbard: Honored to Welcome the WHO Headquarters Team to Rwanda

Lacy Hubbard, President and CEO of Elekta Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Honored to Welcome the WHO Headquarters Team to Rwanda

This week, the World Health Organization technical team arrived in Rwanda for a weeklong deep dive into our national cervical cancer screening program. Together with partners, we visited local health centers where self-sampling is conducted, observed the HPV laboratory, and reviewed processes and protocols.

Their insights and constructive feedback gave us exactly what we needed: confidence in what is working and clarity on where to improve. Hearing their positive reflections is incredibly energizing and inspires us to push even further.

Meeting with Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, Minister of Health, reaffirmed Rwanda’s strong commitment to Mission2027. His direction is clear — forward only.

We also met with the Director General of the Imbuto Foundation, the First Lady’s foundation. She conveyed Her Excellency’s endorsement of Mission2027 and her continued efforts to mobilize support to expand life-saving screening.

In addition, we visited the Rwanda Cancer Center to see their state-of-the-art radiotherapy facility. The center has recently installed a new brachytherapy system, which will further enhance treatment for cervical cancer patients.

A special thank you to the WHO team, Dr. Prebo Barango, Maribel Almonte, and Richard Freeman, for your guidance and partnership during the visit. Your support means a great deal to all of us working on the ground.

I left Kigali energized, grateful for the insights shared, and motivated by the collective commitment to strengthen cervical cancer screening across the country. Every visit, every conversation, and every partner reinforces how much progress Rwanda is making and how much more we can achieve together.”
