Lacy Hubbard, President and CEO of Elekta Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today is Cervical Cancer Elimination Day!
We are honored to welcome the World Health Organization Headquarters team from Geneva to Rwanda as we jointly kicked off the new district-wide screening campaign in Nyarugenge.
Rwanda has now reached 30% screening coverage, and with Nyarugenge joining the journey, momentum toward Mission 2027 continues to accelerate. Rwanda is on track to be the first country to achieve the 90–70–90 targets three years ahead of the global timeline.
As a major partner, I am incredibly proud of what Rwanda has achieved.
I loved seeing so many of our partners standing side by side on this special day. It’s always a joy to see my dear friend, Dr Brenda Asiimwe Kateera, and her dedicated CHAI team.
My deepest appreciation goes to the Rwanda Ministry of Health and RBC (Rwanda Biomedical Centre) for their strong leadership and commitment, and to Dr. Uwinkindi Francois and his incredible Cancer Unit team. They are a true role model of local leadership and a dear partner with whom we have walked this journey hand in hand for three years.
As we commemorate WHO’s Cervical Cancer Elimination Day, Rwanda reminds us what is possible when leadership, partnership, and innovation move in the same direction.
Elimination is achievable and already within reach for countries that lead with vision and action.”
