Lacy Hubbard: Nearly 240,000 women screened for breast cancer in Rwanda

Lacy Hubbard, President and CEO of Elekta Foundation, shared on LinkedIn:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a Call for Equity

As the global map reminds us, mortality is highest where income is lowest, underscoring the urgent need for health equity. In too many underserved countries, breast cancer continues to claim lives not because it’s untreatable, but because women living in poverty face barriers to early detection and timely care.

In the past three years, our dual screening program in Rwanda has screened nearly 240,000 women for breast cancer, bringing life-saving services closer to communities in need and most importantly, teaching women how to perform breast self-exams to take charge of their health.

Along the way, I’ve met many strong and resilient women who remind me why access to early diagnosis and treatment is so critical. Their children, their families, and their communities need them healthy.

Let’s continue raising awareness, expanding access, and ensuring that where a woman lives never determines how long or how well she lives. This is what drives our work at the Elekta Foundation every day.”
