Kyle Veazey, Memphis Brand Board Member, Chief of Stuff at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Five years ago yesterday*, I walked into St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – ALSAC for the first time, with no idea about all that was to come. Like…
… the colleagues, whose intelligence and expertise make you often feel like you’re in the room with the foremost expert on that “thing” in the world, all while being kind and collaborative.
…the challenges, the learning edges, the “oh wow, OK, I get it now” moments.
…the events from Boston to New York to Dallas to San Francisco, and more places in between, meeting generous and smart people I would’ve never met before.
…the growth. Definitely, the growth. I said after five years at City Hall that I received an master’s degree in leadership from Jim Strickland and Doug McGowen. Five years after arriving here, it’s been an M.B.A. — multiple ones, if I’m being honest — given the window into this multi-faceted business that I am so fortunate to occupy.
And all of the above — all of it — in the name of the purest mission imaginable. For the purest cause imaginable. That’s what underlies it all. What makes it all worthwhile.
So I celebrate five years of learning and growth today, and here’s to more to come.
*Not actually. My first day was the start of a week of ice and snow in Memphis that had us all working from home for an entire week! It had cleared by day six, which only allowed me to come to campus, get a COVID test, then go home to make sure I was clear. I was. I finally walked into my office on day seven. Early 2021 was weird, y’all.”
