Kristen Dahlgren: RIP to an Icon – Reflecting on an Afternoon With Gloria Steinem

Kristen Dahlgren, Chief External Affairs Officer at Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, shared on LinkedIn:

“RIP to an Icon.

This summer I had the extraordinary privilege of spending an afternoon with Gloria Steinem– In her 90’s she could still control a room… leaving me hanging on every word.

In a quiet moment, we talked about our breast cancer journeys, and our shared hope for a future where cancer is no longer something women have to fear.

She spent her life challenging the world to see women differently. Sitting across from her, I was struck not only by her extraordinary legacy, but by her warmth, curiosity, humor and continued commitment to making the world better.

I was grateful to share some of the work I’m now doing Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy – and to talk about what it could mean for the next generation of women.

I’m also deeply grateful to my friend Zainab Wadood, a tireless champion for women’s health and people living with hidden disabilities, who made this meaningful afternoon possible.

Grateful for the women who opened doors before me, the women walking beside me, And the next generation that inspires me.

I am lucky to have had that time with a champion who will stay with me.”
