Kimryn Rathmell, Chief Executive Officer of Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Sharing a Washington Post article on cancer rates, particularly in young people, rising in Iowa. Last year I did a tour of Iowa (the state where I was raised) to raise visibility of the high cancer rates in rural America and found an incredibly dedicated community working towards answers and solutions.
This is hard work, but making the data visible is an important step. We can all learn from exceptional cases – exceptionally clustered, exceptionally young, exceptionally rare.
This data should fuel ongoing and future efforts to understand etiology (why) as well as what we can do to improve outcomes (how) while we work on means of preventing cancers in the future (when) and bolstering healthcare partnerships that reach rural America (where). This article is for all of us (who).”
