Kimberly Ng: Building a Welcoming Community for Cancer Patients and Caregivers at the NCIS Wellbeing Centre

Kimberly Ng, Senior Executive (Cancer Survivorship) at National University Cancer Institute, Singapore, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“A year ago, the NCIS Wellbeing Centre opened its doors

Today, I’m reflecting on the many conversations, creative ideas, programmes and partnerships that have shaped its first chapter.

Looking back, I feel incredibly grateful to have been entrusted with the Wellbeing Centre project from its early stages and given the opportunity to shape its growth into a welcoming community space for cancer patients and caregivers.

Over the past year, the Wellbeing Centre has become home to a diverse range of programmes — including educational talks, exercise sessions, music programmes, creative art workshops and festive celebrations. More recently, the introduction of oncology massage as part of our integrative oncology offerings marked another meaningful step in broadening the support available to our patients.

Many of these programmes began as simple ideas that were developed into initiatives tailored to the needs and interests of our patients and caregivers. It has been especially rewarding to see these ideas come to life and to personally facilitate the music, art and festive activities along the way.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this experience has been engaging with patients and caregivers through the programmes. Every person’s journey is unique and supporting wellbeing extends beyond treatment. In many ways, this reflects a belief that has guided the work of the Wellbeing Centre that Every Person Matters.

I am thankful to National University Cancer Institute, Singapore, colleagues, volunteers, partners and everyone who has contributed to bringing the programmes to life. Most importantly, thank you to the patients and caregivers who have embraced the space and made it what it is today.

Happy 1st Anniversary, NCIS Wellbeing Centre. Looking forward to many more meaningful connections and shared experiences ahead.”
