Kibar Yared: Patient Voices Take Center Stage in Cardio-Oncology at GCOS26

Kibar Yared, Director of Cardio-Oncology Program at Scarborough Health Network, shared on LinkedIn:

“We’re in Williamsburg, Virginia!

Instead of a lecture, the morning opened with three patients sitting on stage and talking about what it was really like to go through cancer and heart disease at the same time. No slides, just a conversation. What a refreshing take. One man said he signed up for a clinical trial because people who look like him are so often missing from research, and he wanted to do his part for his community and for his grandsons. We usually talk about trial diversity as a number to hit. He talked about it as something he chose to take on. I’ll be bringing that back with me to how we think about recruitment.

After that, we heard from cardio-oncologists in Brazil, Japan, India and Australia about what they’re up against where they practice, and how ICOS could help us all work together better. The health systems are very different, but the problems sounded familiar: getting patients access, getting referrals right, and getting cardiology and oncology on the same page.

Good start. More to come.”
