Kevin Harrington, Professor in Biological Cancer Therapies at Institute of Cancer Research, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Following our trip to St James’s Palace yesterday morning, we all headed back to work for the afternoon but Professor Dame Julia Buckingham and I then had the pleasure of attending a wonderful dinner held in honour of the 19 prize-winning institutions.
Once again, we were able to bring representatives from across the multiple disciplines within our remarkable team at The Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden Hospital to celebrate excellence in further education in relation to our work in the Division of Radiotherapy and Imaging. I was delighted that we had a strong representation from our team in Academic Services, including Dr Barbara Pittam, Dr Rebecca (Becky) Cook and Dr Saptha Veerapathiran. Becky and Saptha were absolutely central to the application that we submitted and there is no doubt in my mind that it would not have been so successful were it not for their involvement.
I was also delighted that we were joined by representatives of some of the key funders of our research, including Dr Alex Pemberton from Cancer Research UK and Dr Lola Manterola and Mr Diego Megia from the CRIS Cancer Foundation. These individuals and their respective organisations have been key supporters of research that has allowed us to make fundamental discoveries that mean that radiation therapy can be given more effectively and with fewer side effects. Through their support (and that of many others), we have been able to change clinical practice on a global scale, bringing benefit to millions of patients.
It was a truly joyous occasion, showcasing the diversity and brilliance of British higher and further education. Once again, our profound thanks go to the Royal Anniversary Trust for this accolade to our institution.”
