Kevin Harrington, Professor in Biological Cancer Therapies at Institute of Cancer Research, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Yesterday, I had the great pleasure of attending a ceremony at St James’ Palace at which The Institute of Cancer Research received The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Higher and Further Education. This is the highest national honour bestowed on centres of higher and further education and, on this occasion, it was awarded for work performed by the Division of Radiotherapy and Imaging, which I have the pleasure of leading.
At the ceremony, a team of 10 representatives, led by our CEO Professor Kristian Helin FRS, from The ICR received a medal and a certificate from the King and Queen in recognition of the achievement of the whole organisation and the Division of Radiotherapy and Imaging. The award recognised contributions made by the ICR and our partners at the Royal Marsden Hospital to research and education in the use of radiotherapy as a curative-intent treatment for cancer over a period stretching back more than two decades. Those who attended the ceremony represented the breadth of expertise within the Division, including fundamental and translational/clinician scientists, radiography and clinical trial methodology.
We are extremely grateful to the Royal Anniversary Trust for this honour, which will continue to inspire the current generation of research leaders to make the discoveries that will defeat cancer.”
