Kevin Harrington, Professor in Biological Cancer Therapies at the Institute of Cancer Research, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Earlier this week, I had the great pleasure of attending The Institute of Cancer Research’s annual graduation ceremony for students completing elements of the ICR’s Master’s, MD, and PhD training programmes. As always, it was a great afternoon celebrating the achievements of our students who have worked so hard to deliver important new insights into the entire spectrum of cancer studies.
I was particularly proud to witness the award of degrees to a number of graduates who I have had the pleasure of supervising/co-supervising in recent years. I am certain that they will continue to make important contributions to oncology research and to patient care.
Therefore, special mentions go to: Dr Pablo Nenclares (PhD thesis on HPV-related head and neck cancer); Dr Mercedes Fleming (PhD thesis on adenoid cystic salivary gland cancer); Dr Lizzie Appleton (PhD thesis on oncolytic herpes simplex virus (RP1)); and Dr Jehanne Hassan (PhD thesis on kinetics of T-cell receptor activation in Tocky mice). In addition, huge congratulations to Dr Noa Amin (PhD thesis on ARID1A, SWI/SNF and G quadruplex-targeting agents in cancer).
Finally, enormous plaudits go to Dr Miriam Melake (PhD thesis on proteomic analyses of head and neck cancers, supervised by Professor Jyoti Choudhary). Miriam was one of the winners of the Chairman’s Prize for the best PhD thesis of the year.”
