” ‘Leadership is about service – serving the people you are leading.’ – Darren Woods
This resonates deeply with how I think about leadership. For me, service isn’t about hierarchy or even direct management. It’s about building trust, bringing clarity to complexity, and creating environments where people can think and lead beyond silos – especially in cross-functional, highly technical work where influence matters more than title.
When leaders focus on serving both people and outcomes, leadership becomes less about control and more about enabling impact at scale.
Thanks to Mays Business School – Texas A&M University and to MD Anderson Leadership Institute’s Leading Teams curriculum for pushing me to spend a little more time today thinking about what (real) leadership is and why it matters.”
