Kenji López-Cuevas Participated as a Lawyer and Public Policy Specialist in a High-Level Dialogue on Falsified Medicines

Kenji López-Cuevas, Founding President of Cancer Warriors of Mexico, Treasurer at Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I am grateful to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, together with the USPTO, United States Patent and Trademark Office, for inviting me to participate as a lawyer and public policy specialist in a high-level dialogue on falsified medicines.

During my intervention, I presented the economic context of this illicit market, which moves billions of dollars each year and severely affects Mexico and the world.

I also highlighted the serious health risks, as these products endanger the lives of millions of patients by being ineffective or even lethal.

I outlined the legal defense mechanisms available to patients in our country: from the importance of purchasing only from authorized pharmacies, to following COFEPRIS health alerts and filing complaints with PROFECO.

Finally, I shared the legal pathways and criminal sanctions that address the falsification of medicines in Mexico, as established in the General Health Law and the Federal Criminal Code.

Special gratitude and recognition to Paulo S Camposeco for organizing this Seminar and for the follow-up on this relevant subject.”
