Kefah Mokbel: The Remarkable Progress in Breast Localisation and Excision Techniques

Kefah Mokbel, Chair of Breast Cancer Surgery at London Breast Institute and Honorary Professor of Medicine at Cardiff University School of Medicine, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This image shows the Savi Scout device perfectly positioned in the center of a lumpectomy specimen following neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Nowadays, we typically deploy the Savi Scout reflector at the time of biopsy. However, in this case the patient had travelled from Kuwait with a pre-existing inactive metallic marker placed before chemotherapy, so we used the Savi Scout to precisely localise that marker.

MRI was also accurately used for monitoring treatment response, facilitated by the minimal artefacts generated by the Savi Scout.

Such accuracy highlights the remarkable progress in breast localisation and excision techniquesoptimising oncological outcomes while conserving healthy tissue.

Innovation like this continues to refine the art and science of breast-conserving surgery.”
