Katy Beckermann, Medical Director of GU Clinical Research at Tennessee Oncology, shared a post on X:
“What does it actually take to get AI into clinical oncology?
Julian Hong had one of the clearest answers at ASCO26.
Three questions you have to answer:
- Does the model hold up? Not just in the training dataset in patients who look different, prospectively, in a truly external cohort.
- Does acting on it change outcomes? Not just faster reports or cleaner alerts. Does it move something that matters for the patient?
- Can it actually be deployed?
DECIDE-AI (Vasey et al., Nat Med 2022) stages this like drug development, all the way to post-market surveillance. The roadmap is there. The field needs the trials to match it.”
