Kate Ayers, Director of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The first two weeks of our summer research immersion program have been filled with discovery, reflection, and growth.
Our students have begun exploring an important question: Who am I becoming as a scientist? Through guided reflection and meaningful conversations, they are developing a deeper understanding of their identities, values, and aspirations within the scientific community.
They have also worked alongside their mentors to establish shared expectations, creating strong foundations for productive and supportive research experiences. One of the most rewarding aspects of this program is our layered mentorship model, where many mentors are undergraduate researchers who are simultaneously advancing their own research and leadership skills while supporting the next generation of scientists.
Students have also gained insight into the day-to-day life of a researcher at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, learning not only about scientific inquiry and discovery, but also about collaboration, perseverance, and the collective effort required to advance treatments and cures for childhood diseases.
As we move into the next phase of the program, we’re excited to see our students continue to build confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging in research.
Thank you to our mentors, laboratory teams, and program staff for creating an environment where young scientists can thrive!”
