Kashyap Patel: Honored with the Hind Rattan Award from the NRI Welfare Society of India

Kashyap Patel, Medical Director and Consultant at Blue Cross Blue Shields of South Carolina, Past President at Community Oncology Alliance, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This morning, I received unexpected news that has left me deeply moved and reflective. I have been selected to receive the Hind Rattan Award from the NRI Welfare Society of India, one of the highest recognitions for members of the Indian diaspora. The ceremony will take place on August 14th at the Supreme Court of England in London.

As I enter the last quarter of my journey, I find myself contemplating what truly matters. This recognition, especially given the distinguished lineage of past recipients including Mother Teresa, serves as a reminder that our greatest legacy lies not in accolades, but in service above self.

For over two decades, my work in community oncology has been driven by a simple conviction: every patient, regardless of their zip code or economic circumstances, deserves access to world-class cancer care. Through Carolina Blood and Cancer Care Associates, the Community Oncology Alliance, and initiatives like No One Left Alone, I have been privileged to work alongside extraordinary colleagues who share this mission of addressing healthcare disparities and advancing equitable cancer care.

This honor belongs not to me alone, but to:

  •  The incredible team at CBCCA who serve our rural South Carolina communities with excellence and compassion every day.
  •  The patients who trust us with their care and teach us resilience.
  •  The healthcare advocates and policymakers working to transform our system.
  •  The community oncology movement fighting to preserve patient-centered care.

As I prepare for this journey to London, I am reminded that recognition is meaningful only when it amplifies the work that remains. There are still too many communities without access, too many disparities unaddressed, and too many voices unheard.

Thank you to the NRI Welfare Society for this extraordinary honor. I accept it with humility and renewed commitment to the work ahead.

Service above self. Always.”
