“I am delighted that Karolinska Institutet has announced the establishment of a new Center for Immuno-Oncology at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology, MTC.
I will join KI on 1 January 2027 and have the privilege of leading the development of the Center.
Our ambition is to build an internationally connected environment that brings fundamental immunology closer to new cancer therapies.
Central to this will be recruiting and supporting outstanding young scientists with complementary expertise. I am also very pleased that Professor Mikael Karlsson will relocate his research activities to the Center and become part of its senior scientific leadership.
This marks a transition after 15 deeply rewarding years at the Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) and Oslo University Hospital.
I am immensely grateful for the support and trust I have received, and especially to all the talented and wonderful people in MalmbergLab, whose science, commitment and generosity have shaped everything we have achieved.
I am equally grateful to all colleagues involved in Precision Immunotherapy Alliance, PRIMA, and across the Oslo research environment. Our collaborations will continue, particularly around precision immunotherapy and advanced therapy medicinal products across the Nordic region.
Norway has become much more than a place of work, and I leave with friendships for life.
I would also like to thank the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, and the Center for Infectious Medicine at KI for their support over many decades and for helping make this next step possible.”
